The Kindling Cracker Original gives you a safer, easier way to split kindling for your wood burner, open fire, fire pit or pizza oven.

Instead of holding a log in one hand and swinging an axe with the other, you place the wood inside the safety ring and strike it with a hammer or mallet.

The blade stays fixed in place, the log is kept inside the ring, and your hands stay away from the cutting edge.

How the Kindling Cracker works

Using the Kindling Cracker is straightforward:

1. Place a suitable log inside the safety ring.
2. Strike the top of the log with a hammer or mallet.
3. The fixed blade splits the wood into kindling.
4. Repeat until you have enough kindling for your fire.

There are no sharp moving parts to swing. The blade stays fixed, making the process feel more controlled than chopping kindling with an axe.

The story behind the design

The Kindling Cracker was invented by Ayla Hutchinson in New Zealand when she was just 13 years old.

The idea came after her mother injured her finger while splitting kindling with an axe. Ayla saw a simple problem: people needed kindling, but chopping small logs with an axe could be awkward and risky.

Her solution was to keep the blade fixed in place, hold the wood inside a safety ring, and strike the log with a blunt tool instead.
